The very first SUMO Sprint in Mozilla Community Space Jakarta

1st SUMO Sprint MozSpaceJKT

As a SUMO contributor, we often call ourselves as a Mozilla superhero. But the thing about community is, we can't force other people to care as much as we do. So there must be time when we feel like a lone ranger. And therefore, we need help.

Coming from a realization that we need more SUMO contributor from Indonesia, me and some fellow Mozillians organize a SUMO Sprint event in 5th June, 2016. The event was took place in the brand new Mozilla Community Space Jakarta that was just launched a month before in 13 May 2016. There were 10 participants which were all new to SUMO and Mozilla Community. In this event, I explain about contribution opportunities in Support Mozilla. What the participants can do in Support Mozilla platform, and also technically about how to use the tools in Support Mozilla platform.

After a brief introduction to the SUMO platform, we do translation sprint for the K.B articles to Bahasa Indonesia (id). Then in the middle of the sprint, we have video chat with SUMO coordinator, Michal. Michal then explain furthermore about the SUMO platform and also about what’s the fun part in SUMO.

From this event, 5 new articles was translated. We then close the event with the group photo. Looking at the enthusiasm of the participants, we’re now thinking about to make this SUMO Sprint as a regular event in Mozilla Community Space, Jakarta.

And from this event, now I realized that there’s no such a thing like lone ranger in a community. Perhaps, there are other people who want to contribute but they don’t know about the opportunity. That’s why it’s the task for the current contributor, to help other people discover this contribution opportunity. To let other people know, how to be a superhero for Mozilla.
